Many people assume that Plastic Surgeons get their name from plastic parts that are often used in modern plastic surgery. There were, however, Plastic Surgeons long before the first plastic materials were used. The word "plastic" comes from the Greek word plasticos, meaning "to mold, form, or shape." That's what Plastic Surgeons do . . . reshape or even recreate different parts of the body in men, women, and children.
Plastic Surgery encompasses both the cosmetic and the reconstructive. Some of the procedures commonly performed by Plastic Surgeons include:
Facial Cosmetic Surgery: facelifts, eyelid surgery, forehead lifts, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, nasoplasty, chin implants

Skin Care: sun damage, aging changes, hyperpigmentation

Breast Surgery: enlargements, reductions, change shape, reconstruct after mastectomy

Body Contour Surgery: suction lipectomy, abdominoplasty

Repair Congenital Deformities: cleft lip, cleft palate, prominent ears

Repair Minor and Major Injuries: facial laceration, facial bone fracture, hand injury, scar revision

Remove Skin Lesions: skin cancer, moles, and other types

As with any surgery, there is always some risk involved. While surgical complications are uncommon and typically minor, there is always a possibility of difficulties, including infection or a reaction to anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by following our instructions both before and after surgery. Good communication between you and our office is essential. Therefore, our surgeons and staff will meet with you to determine your needs and goals, to discuss your options, to explain procedures and techniques, and to cover the risks and costs involved. Regarding costs, most insurance policies do not cover cosmetic surgery intended for aesthetic purposes.  However, if the procedure is for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a deformity, the procedure may be covered. In any event, you should check with your insurer, and obtain pre-authorization for surgery.
