Eyelid Surgery

Wrinkles, excess skin, and puffiness around the eyes can be very bothersome and can even cause vision problems. The puffiness and dark circles around the eyes can make you look tired and generally older than desired. Eyelid surgery, also called an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty, may help restore your eyes back to that youthful, bright appearance you desire.

You may have upper and/or lower eyelid surgery to remove excess fat, skin, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision. Fat pads, which cause puffiness and dark circles, will also be removed. The incisions are cosmetically hidden in the upper and lower eyelashes.

If severe sagging in the brow or upper eyelids is present, you may also be a candidate for a brow lift.

A blepharoplasty is not typically painful. You can expect to have swelling and bruising around the eyes for a week to ten days. The swelling and bruising may inhibit you from driving and returning to work. Most patients return to work in 5-7 days and may attend major social engagements in 10 days to 2 weeks.
