MUSC-trained surgeon brings nearly two decades of training and more than 4,000 procedures to South Carolina’s oldest plastic surgery practice; his existing patients are being scheduled first, with every prior commitment honored.

CHARLESTON, S.C., August 25, 2026: Charleston Plastic Surgery today announced that Craig Blum, MD, FACS, a board-certified plastic surgeon, has joined the practice, the oldest plastic surgery practice in South Carolina. Dr. Blum is now seeing patients and scheduling consultations and surgeries at the practice’s offices.

The addition completes a plan more than a year in the making to bring a second plastic surgeon to the practice. Charleston Plastic Surgery is independent and physician-owned, and its physicians, not outside investors, make its decisions.

“Bringing on a second plastic surgeon has been part of our plan for more than a year, and Dr. Blum is the right surgeon at the right moment,” said Gene Brown, MD, chief executive officer of Charleston Plastic Surgery. “He brings exceptional training, thousands of successful procedures, and deep roots in this community. We are a practice owned by physicians, which means decisions here are made by doctors, for patients. This one makes us stronger.”

Dr. Blum was raised in Mullins, South Carolina, where his mother worked as a nurse, and he began volunteering at the local hospital as a boy. He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of South Carolina, earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, and completed a six-year general surgery residency at MUSC that included a dedicated research year in cancer genetics at Hollings Cancer Center in the laboratory of David Cole, MD, now president of the university. He then completed fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tulane University, where he served as administrative chief resident, and spent four years at the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery in New Orleans, one of the nation’s most specialized breast surgery practices.

Dr. Blum returned home to South Carolina in 2018 and has performed more than 4,000 procedures in the Charleston area since. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, earned board certification in general surgery earlier in his career, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a published researcher. His practice centers on aesthetic breast surgery, his deepest area of expertise, along with abdominoplasty, liposuction, body contouring after significant weight loss, and eyelid and facial surgery.

Patients who had previously planned procedures with Dr. Blum are being contacted personally by the practice. Every commitment is being honored in full: deposits are being credited, quotes are being kept, and his existing patients are being scheduled first, before his surgical calendar opens more broadly.

“This community has trusted me with their care for years, and that trust means everything to me,” said Dr. Blum. “My focus is simple: take care of my patients, honor every commitment made to them, and give people the most honest, safest care I can. I want to understand what matters to each patient and recommend only what I truly believe will help. I’m grateful to be joining a team that practices the same way, and I’m glad to be back to work.”

Consultations with Dr. Blum can be scheduled at 843-722-1985 or ChasPlasticSurgery.com. He can be followed at @drcraigblum.
